Pulsar is a fantastic piece of audio hardware, offering great I/o
flexibility, awesome synths, great effects, open ended architecture,
fantastic audio quality etc. The more I use it the more it rewards me, and
the longer time goes on the more excellent 3rd party devices become
available (many of them free or very cheap).
The downside? - it doesn't work too well with Logic. The ASIO drivers are
ok (I use them and put up with the periodic crashes and other problems).
EASI drivers (Emagic's own driver interface) are due out any day, and if
they work will make this an awesome combination. My advice, wait for the
EASI drivers and LAW 4.1 (due December 6th) and if the responses on this and
the Pulsar group (pulsar-scope@egroups.com) are positive then go for it.
As far as STS 4000 is concerned, it looks great on paper, but isn't
available yet. It differs from Gigasampler in that it uses CPU RAM for
sample storage so the enormous sample sizes which have partly been
responsible for GIga's success are not applicable.
Good luck.
