Try selecting the half note, then make it "independent" from the attributes window. You can choose stem direction, placement, etc... independently now for this note. The rests that will be displayed in that measure will relate to the other notes you have, i.e the 8th notes. So, you may need to insert rests to get things to look "polyphonic"... this is one way to do it, maybe not the ideal way. In order to get true voice polyphony in a part, you have to create a new polyphonic score style.I'm not quite awake enough to go into all of the details of that, but if you're going to find the real solution to this issue, you should explore that topic in the manual or help files. Again, user rests and independent notes can help when you only have a few times that voices need to be shown independently. And those user rests are an amazing tool inside the score editor, worth experimenting with. It sounds that your issue could just be solved by making the half note independent, and then inserting rests where necessary. Remember, the rests that you insert are graphic only, and don't affect the midi data. I know this is probably not very clear, but it is a nudge in the right direction. JT
