Hi John, I've been experiencing a similar thing, but I don't think just with older files - I've observed that I get a crash when trying to select anything that's not notes (e.g. slur or articulation marks). It doesn't seem to be consistent behaviour for me, though. Logic's scoring capability is not a high priority for the programmers it seems. It's too bad, as it's got real potential. A friend of mine (who uses Sibelius now) told me Logic has far fewer scoring features than the old Notator used to have(!...)

Hi John, I've checked into this and it has to do with non-note objects as you say. This is not acceptable is it? If notation is part of the program, then it has to work, not crash the computer. I can't believe I'd get to the day when I couldn't rely on Logic for notation. All of my scores are done with Logic. I agree that NOTATOR for ATARI was an excellent program and the features in Logic were initially really poor by comparison. But now Logic does have good parts extraction and other features going for it. But crashing because I select and delete a group of slurs? Come on emagic! Not acceptable! John

The following solution solved the problem and may help you here: 1. Zap the P-ram..that is, start computer holding Command Option P R and let it chime four times. 2. On the fourth chime, hold down Command Option O F (Really, I'm not kidding) 3. When the command line comes on the screen, let go of the keys, then type: "reset-nvram," (no quotes) then hit Enter. 4. Lastly, type in: "reset-all" (no quotes), and hit Enter This apparently clears up some obscure registers that can cause erratic behavior if they get scrambled through crashes, bad instals, etc.. Its also a good idea to have a copy of Disk Warrior and use it regularly. Lockups followed by a hard reboot reek havoc on your directory, which DW repairs nicely. Keep in mind if the directory gets messed up enough, you could lose all, so its money well spent. Hope this helps, James

I have yet to try all of the files that had been crashing. Does Disk Warrior help figure out if there are problems with Logic song files? The praise this program gets is incredible. I might get a copy. John
