Subject: [LAM] - Project Manager Problems
Message #151248
Hi All, There's nothing in the FAQ about Project manager yet. I promise I have read the manual and Len Sasso book but can't figure these problems out. I hope someone out there can help out. Project MANAGER probz ---------------------- AIM: Started 3 months ago with Logic and Mac. I have lots of "test" audio and songs and wanted to use PM to clean up my drives (in OS 10.2.8, Logic 6.3.1) ACTION: I open the PM window I run a “scan” – but Logic freezes (the spinning rainbow wheel) at 12500 "new files found". So I Force QUIT and try again but it happens at about the same point – the same Lacie FW folder. I delete certain unwanted folders in there and start again, but it keeps crashing. NB: Logic is RED in "Force Quit" After some struggle I find that it is a folder of “Freeze Files” which crashes the scanning. Using < SCan Folder > I finally managed to get a good Database of all the files on all the drives that are relevant to Logic - hooray. - q: Is this a HW pb or a Logic pb? - q: do Freeze Files always crash PM scans (and need to be excluded) and, - q: if so, can you set the path of the Freeze Files in Logic? NB: the Lacie 80Gb firewire is plugged directly into the TiBook, not via the interface I then got to BROWSE in order to check out the AUDIO files and do a clean-up... ………. - SMALL TIP: open the audio files from the bottom up, so you don't have to keep mousing down/ or moving the <page down> button to get to the next triangle to expand the audio file to reveal the audio file itself. Unlike in the Audio Window, there is NO < View - Show All Regions > type of command that will open up all the files for inspection... ……… then... Beneath the Audio files under the waveforms it shows if they are USED by a song (useful!) So I try to delete a file that is unused by any song and Logic says: - "it is used in an open song" But this is impossible - there are no other open songs, only Autoload. So I check “Audio Window” and the Audio file is *not* used in the current open song (Autoload) No other version of Logic is open either... - q: why is this? is it a bug or a feature, some preferences need to be set? - q: if the file IS used in a song why cant it tell me which one & it's path? Thanks for your help, Lu set-up: OS X.2.8 + Logic 6.3.1 + Tibook 1Ghz + Lacie 80Gb FW

FWIW, I have had massive problems with the PM under Jaguar and OS9 both. I have a LOT of files (over 100,000 including samples and EXS--but no freeze files). I generally get about 90% of the way through the updating ofthe database when I open a song and then I get the dreaded "Try to Save Your song" every time. I've deleted the prefs more times than I can count and I'm just so disgusted with the PM that I have it turned completely off. > then... > Beneath the Audio files under the waveforms it shows if they are USED by a > song (useful!) > So I try to delete a file that is unused by any song and Logic says: > - "it is used in an open song" > But this is impossible - there are no other open songs, only Autoload. > So I check "Audio Window" and the Audio file is *not* used in the current > open song (Autoload) No other version of Logic is open either... > - q: why is this? is it a bug or a feature, some preferences need to be > set? I have had this issue also. It seems that if you have done anything with that file in the current session--even if it is no longer used, PM thinks it can't be deleted. That's my experience anyway... -Dan

By the way, quitting Logic (or maybe just closing the song) and then opening it again seems to reset this and then you can delete the file.
