Hi there,
I am a current Vision user and have a bug that I can't fix so I
am considering buying Logic Gold (or Platinum) or maybe
Performer. I use a mac G4 400 MHz /128 MB /os9.0 and mostly
use it for midi, but would like to begin using it for audio and
virtual synths. One thing I like about Vision is the editing options.
Do you find ample editing options? What about patch editing like
with Unisyn, where I can edit my midi patch data (eg oscillators,
vdf, envelopes, etc)so I can create cool sounds with my
synthesizer-does emagic have this? How about converting file
formats- eg MP3 or other export files? And what about using
Reason or other VST pluggins?
I guess overall, while I like options, my main goal is to
spend time creating music and NOT trying to figure out why my
software, hardware, etc, etc, etc doesn't work. I
have been reading different forums and it seems each
sequencer has their share of problems... So I wonder, for
sanity's sake, if maybe I can live with a bug in Vision. Thanks.

Hey George,
I know a guy who migrated from Vision to Logic and after complaining briefly
about
some particular feature he'd lost, he's now a die-hard fan having realized
that he
gained about a thousand others he never had.
I know there's an Emagic product called SoundDiver that's supposed to be
their
equivalent of Unisyn but I notice that SoundDiver isn't yet OS X compatible,
so I
wonder if it's still being supported. Maybe if you're planning to stay with
OS9 it won't
matter. [or maybe the OSX version will come out next week :o)]
The latest Logic seems to deal with all file formats well, and VST is well
integrated
with OS9 - if you want to go OS X you need to get AU versions (see numerous
discussions about AU and VST in previous LUG threads) or use the
wonderful fxpansion VST->AU wrapper to convert them.
Good luck making your decision - we're all here because we decided on Logic,
and
FWIW I decided because I liked the user-configurability of it.

for whatever its worth, I just switching from Digital Performer to
Logic. DP4 is riddled with bugs and so far I am totally loving
Logic completely.
