Hi Joe, > I have to record with a Roland v drum set later this week, and I want to > input the set MIDI so i can separate the snare, kick, toms, etc.. Record it all on one track as the guy plays. Do all your tracking, editing, constructing composite takes, etc like this. Once the session is finished and the guy has left and your editing is complete (is it ever really complete?) then use the demix by note event feature under one of the local menus in either the arrange window or score editor. This will strip the part out into separate tracks for each midi note number (drum surface) that was triggered. You can them easily reassign these parts to other tracks/sounds by dragging. -- Eli Krantzberg Nightshift orchestra / Almat Productions http://www.nightshiftorchestra.com

This is a reply to #151142.
There is only one downfall to using the function "demix by note event" with V-Drums --- if you have, forinstance, the Session version with multiple expression pads (different sounds on diffent parts of the drums or cymbals), each sound occupies it's own note event. So demixing will make you end up with a mess of channels up and down your Arrange window. Example: One will play the Hi-Hat with some sort of feel and groove, i.e. 1/4 note accents on 1/8 notes. The sound you get on the 1/4 note is literally a different note event then the sound you get on the "and" 1/4 notes. So if you demixed by note event on the Hi-Hat, you would theoretically get 2 channels of one instrument. Not exactly the most desirable way to work. It gets messy with alot of drums. Solution: In the track where you have all the note events for your drums, select each instrument that you want to separate (i.e. select all the Hi-Hat note events), copy it, and then paste it in a new midi track. Then go back to the original and delete that selected instrument. Unfortunately I've found that "Cut and Paste" doesn't work, but "Copy and Paste" does. Go figure. Hope this is clear. The V-Drums are an awesome instrument. As an owner myself, this method is the only way that suits my needs for separation. M-De __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
