Subject: [LAM] The best audio & midi interface.
Message #149277
I am about to bite the bullet and upgrade from Logic 4.8.1, a G4/400 with a Digi 001 and an MT4 to hopefully the G5 1.8 and the most recommended midi and audio interface. Would really like to hear from satisfied users as to what they would replace the MT 4 with (if anything) and more specifically, the Digi 001? I have heard good things about M-Audio products, also the RME Hammerfall card. Appreciate any first-hand opinions. Simon Binks.

I personally wouldn't buy anything from M-Audio as I really hate their sound quality. OTOH, Mobile IO is the best choice IMNSHO, and if it's too expensive for your budget, RME is not bad either. Just my $0.02. Best, Andy

The 828mkII has been working great here forth Midi and Audio in OS X, the M-Audio Firewire 410 appears to be a processor hog.

Just my $0.02. > > Best, > > Andy Mobile I/O is a great product..... you may want to give M-audio another listen tho.... the delta 1010 is one of the best sounding interfaces in its price range. The converters sound amazing, truly........ I also have a delta 66 that sounds good as well.... I tried to hook up an original motu 828 on that machine yesterday...... nothing but trouble with 10.2.8 logic 6.3.1 I get sound for like 2 minutes than it chokes requiring a restart to get audio back...... the 828 also doesn't sound nearly as good as the delta 1010....... I fought with the 828 for 2 days (driver 1.0.7 and down) with no relief, just to get the lightpipe that the 1010 lacks, but it was not worth it.... the Delta 1010 and 66 worked without fail on every OS I have running in the studio from 9 to 10.3 panther...... Seems to be a WAYYYYYY better product so far..... studiogeek PS: RME is great as well

I was trying the M-Audio Audiophile USB with my 2x2 g G5 (OS 10.2.8) and ran into big problems. None of the available drivers at M-Audio's site was working. In fact they all crashed the Mac and also rendered Safari unbootable. I was happy to get help to fix the Safari problem by the 90 days Apple support. I'm using the Audiophile USB on a PC WinXP laptop though, and it rocks for live work. -- Best wishes Per Boysen www.boysen.se

Gives you 10 analog inputs simultaneous (incl. 2 mic preamps) at up to 24bit/96kHz, plus digital ins, MIDI in/out, SMPTE in/out, and full featured onboard monitor mixer as well, all for a decent price. I am no expert, but the A/Ds sound pretty good to me, maybe not Focusrite quality, but pretty good. I have heard people complain about MOTU for various reasons, but this thing is working great. Only snag was needing to download the latest driver off their site to fix a MIDI problem, no biggie. Hope this helps.
