Someone allready said so, perhaps Emagic started to do it in order to either make the bouncing process faster (something that hasn't happened yet) or make it a real offline process. That would either result in faster bounces or be an option to use additional FX that you couldn't run in realtime (such as a maximizer on the master). >There are some advantages to realtime bouncing (if you could >hear it): > >1) When you are very sure the mix is complete, you perform >the bounce and check while it's doing it. I don't care about the additional d/a a/d that my audio is going through at all (if you would see my equipment you wouldn't care either, may I just say MidiverbIII...). >2) You can simultaneously make cassette or DAT copies of >the mix while bouncing. Well, YES, that defenitely is a valuable point, I actually do that sometimes if I'm in a hurry. >3) You can include the live inputs (say, MIDI gear). Whether >or not you can hear while bouncing doesn't change the usefulnes >of this feature. Hm, this currently isn't possible unless you do a hardware rewiring and use 0 latency hardware such as PT, as you have no control of the levels otherwise (just through your mixer which of course doesn't reflect what's sended to your audio hardware). As said, that's something appealing me with things like PT. I'd like to add that some people still don't use automation for everything, meaning that they still tweak certain faders while mixing. >Also, it seems to me that time-based plugins might be a bit tricky >to render in non-realtime? Compression, delay, reverb..... Ok, this is another point. I just know it kinda works in VST, but if one monitors the complaints about screwed up mixdowns on the VST list it just becomes obvious that this feature isn't exactly solved well yet. One of the (very few) points I'm going to download VST 3.7r1, just to see if they managed to fix that. Sascha
