Subject: [LAM] quantize notes--incl. end/release points?
Message #147365
i can't seem to figure out how to quantize each note's release point. for example, say i'm quantizing a bass line, but i want the release of the note to be quantized (to whatever near-value i'm quantizing it to--say 1/16 note values) so that it releases before the next note follows. (this was an easy way to do in DP-- where on the quantize screen it gave a check-box for "quantize release notes" as well...) any help would be greatly appreciated. always, tv

You can't as far as I know -- bummer indeed, and incomprehensible that such a basic function is not possible with a sophisticated package like Logic. The following might be a workaround (although I'm not sure: just give it a try). Select the sequence, open Transform, and transform all notes to poly-pressure. Then quantize all poly-pressure events whose -2- byte have value 0 (set Transform operations to match Status=poly-pressure, -2-=0). Then transform all poly-pressure back to notes. No idea if this won't end up with spurious events though -- Logic maybe creating "default note-offs" or whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

Speaking generally and not only for Logic, familiar procedures from another system are often not necessary because the proper method is available. Christian

This came up earlier in this forum - see thread ending at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/message/139814 Hope this helps, Sonny Keyes SKa Music Toronto

This has been a curse for anyone wanting to quantise for a notation programme for years, but now we have a partial solution. In the Matix > Functions > Transform > Quantise note length there are 2 options, Quantise and Qua and Min. With these you can get all the note lengths to a grid point, and from there the Nudge Event Length by format key command in conjunction with the Next Event key command means that if you don't mind trying to look like a monkey trying to write Shakespeare, you can achieve a reasonably swift xfer to Sib or Finale. However, a key command for Adjust all Note Lengths to nearest 16th would be much quicker. mRegards Brian
