LAMP 6.2x - 6.3.1
Mirror Dual 1ghz G4
1.5 GB Ram
Core Audio Drivers: AW8 and/or Internal (doesn't matter)
I have a very strange problem. When I first went to OSX after years of using
Logic in OS9 everything was fine and I was able to use quite a few AU plugs,
with no crashes or problems. At some point however (might have been after I
tried to install Reaktor?) Logic started doing the "Try to save your
song" during
the bootup process, effectively causing Logic to become unusable. Didn't
matter what file I tried to load either. I removed all AU plugs except 4:
Trilogy,
Stylus, Crystal, And Rumblance Zoid. After that Logic was fine again. I ran
for
some time using these plugs, and then I tried an experiment by adding
another plugin to the Audio Units folder (I use the root level one, not the
user
one, though the problem is the same either way). What I found is that any
attempt to add even a single plugin brings the crashing back... the strange
thing is it doesn't matter which plug! ANY additional plug beyong the four I
listed above brings Logic to its knees. It would be impossible that all
other
plugs are bad, because I used them successfully prior to this problem
occuring. I've tried deleting the logic prefs files, but no change. 6.3.1
doesn't
help either. It's very frustrating. Any ideas?

I have post problems with AU's on the Core-Audio dev list.
I had a very nice answer from one of the AU Apple dev. Explaining that they
just brought out an AU tester to see if AU's confirm to standard.
Many other person on that list and I had also problems with Final Cut Pro
and the AU's
The problem with new technologies is that there are bugs at the beginning !
To move a studio in production with OSX, is getting better ; but it is still
risky
On the French Logic audio list none of the studio in production have move to
OSX yet !
For my case : as I have no outstanding production, so I am experimenting
with OSX, but as soon I will have one I will do it under OS 9

Dan,
Judging by the behavior that you experience I would suggest removing the
four that
you have working and then try adding the others. It's very possible that one
of the
four is conflicting with most other plugins except for the other three that
you're
using. This was a common problem with INITs and extentions in OS9 which
necessitated Conflict Catcher to be written, and I could certainly see
similar problems
arising with AUs.
I think that you have successfully narrowed the problem down to four AUs....
