This doesn't actually timestamp an audio file, like in DP or Pro Tools, so
that if you export the file into another Logic sequence (or in ProTools, DP,
etc.) it can go to the properly recalled, original time code location, does
it?

You can use "export region definitions" in the audio window.
AFAIR that does NOT take SMPTE offsets into account, so be careful...

Any way to redefine (or user-define) the original record position after the
fact?
