Hi all,
Trying to install Version 6 on Jaguar, (Just installed), installer says that
it
won't install because there's newer emagic software installed. I installed
EXkey.dmg.gz before attempting the LAMP 6 install, but try as I might, I
can't
trash it because according to OSX 2.6, the installed extension
EmagicXSkey.kext is "owned by the root directory".
Anyone ever have to deal with this?
Thanx,
Boe.

OSX can get pretty annoying about giving you permission to manage
your own shit, but in this particular instance why don't you just DL
the latest version of Logic and install that. That should be easier
and more direct than installing 6.0 and doing updates anyway.

To delete stuff owned by root you have to become the Root User. The
Root User is login name to your computer which has permission to do
anything to any files on the computer, regardless of who they belong to.
Make sure you are logged in as an admin. If you own this computer
chances are you're already an admin. Open the Application
Applications>Utilities>NetInfo Manager and in the Security menu choose
Authenticate. Enter your OS X password. Now in the security menu
click Enable Root User. Choose a password for the Root User. Quit
NetInfo Manager.
Now in the Apple menu choose Log out. This will take you to the login
screen. Type "root" in the top box (or choose the picture with
Other
User or something written next to it, then type "root") and your
Root
User password in the bottom box.
You are now logged in as the Root User. Delete at will, but take
care!...
Stephen.
