Just for the record I also found out that my Windows XP system that was
sold me "to the upgrade price" requires the old Windows 98 CD to
install. A fact they never told me at the store. I got my Win 98 CD back
from the person I gave it to, when moving to XP, but the XP installation
process keeps saying "your Windows 98 CD is not valid" so I had to
call
Microsoft support and ask what the hell was going on. Microsoft said my
Windows 98 is not valid for system upgrade, since I bought it bundled
with a computer, and that the store should have informed me on that when
selling me Windows XP. Desperately I called the store again. They were
nice and apologized but told me that Microsoft never informed them on
this so they have actually had no chance to keep me informed. Shit - I
just want to make music! Want my geefive!!!!

Microsoft is wrong in this case, unless you were sold a pirated copy of
Windows 98 in the first place. If you have an original Windows 98 CD, and
there's an OEM sticker on your computer with the 25 character alpha-numeric
CD Key, then you're legit, and should be able to install the XP Upgrade. Not
to insult MS, of course, but you may need to ask for someone in their Tech
Support that knows something. ;)
