Subject: [LAM] Trouble getting audio in using Logic Audio 5.5
Message #138324
Hi all, I'm a newbie to Logic and have run into a wall getting up to speed with Logic and getting audio into the machine. First off, the machine specs. Dual gig G4. 1.5GB of RAM. Many gigabytes of free disk space. MacOS X 10.2.5 Logic Audio 5.5 M-Audio Delta 44 M-Audio USB MidiSport 4x4 Given the above specs I have been unable to get any audio into Logic. I've tried the several Delta devices that the driver offers, Analog 1/2, Analog 3/4, and Multichannel. In all cases, no audio ever shows up inside of Logic. There is definitely audio present, as the M-Audio Delta control panel responds to incoming signals. To make matters worse, I'm switching to Logic from Deck 3.5LE which has no problems recording audio on the same setup. Logic does work when running in MacOS 9. Interestingly, Deck sees four Delta devices where Logic only sees three. The missing one is Mixer. I can record midi data, but when doing so I get frequent alerts informing of audio/midi sync errors which the tech indicated is symptomatic of the card or driver misbehaving. I don't seem to have this problem in Deck. However, I can't control Audio instruments, such as the ES1, unless I switch the driver to built-in. When it's set to one of the delta devices, nothing appears in the level meter. Switch to built-in audio and suddenly it starts responding to my midi controller and sound is produced from the Macs speakers. I am stumped at what to do next. I've tried various permutations of settings, both within Logic and the Delta control panel with no success. I moved the Delta card to a different slot, reinstalled the system, checked the disks for errors, hopped on one foot in a counterclock-wise direction while chanting to the computer gods. Nothing I've tried seems to make a difference. I spoke with eMagic's tech support and the end result was the suggestion to only run Logic in 9 which frankly just isn't going to happen. My life is in X, and I have no desire to switch back and forth. I've also searched through eMagic's info-web, various FAQs on the web, and looked for pertinent messages here with no luck so far. Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try before I bang a dent in my head? -- Mitch Jones mitch@...

Hi Mitch, I own a Midiman Delta 1010LT, and in OS X, the left channel is always 6 db lower than the right channel. I contacted Midiman support, and they said that it's probably a bug in their OS X drivers (which, BTW, are not beta!). They suggested I either re-install the drivers (which did nothing) or wait for an update in the form of their next beta (great...). Perhaps the Delta 44 drivers are also 'buggy' in OS X? Good luck, Ned http://www.nedfx.com Ned Bouhalassa n e d @ n e d f x . c o m
