Just so you know; you don't need to upgrade all the way to platinum for
this. Gold has the same environment features.

Just so you also know: you'll be able to tap off the ports from the
Physical Input in Gold or Platinum, but it's still not going to be
possible to record the ports separately - for recording you're still
stuck with a merged-to-16-channels scenario. There are potential
workarounds for that too, but they're not pretty. And multitrack midi
recording in Logic is a pretty awful kludge.
If designating "tracks X, Y, and Z always record ports/channels A1, B1
and C1, regardless of what track is currently selected" for multiple
simultaneous midi sources is extremely important for your working
style, Logic is probably not the app for you.
