Subject: Is This SCSI Drive Fast Enough?
Message #9004
Hi all-- I'm looking at buying a Seagate Barracuda ST39173W drive. It's an Ultra-Wide, capable of up to 40mb/sec, with average seek time of 7.4ms. I'm working on a project using 24-bit 48k files, and would like to get at least 24 tracks going at once. I know I can do the math for the theoretical mb/sec, but I also know real-world and theory are two diferent things. Given that I'll be buying a controller capable of getting the max out of the card, is this a fast enough HD? Or do I really need Ultra2-Wide? Many thanks for any replies, Yarrow
