I'm not very clear on how to read the CPU window. I have a dual
proc G4. The CPU window is broken into 2 main sections (Audio vs.
Disk I/)), and the Audio meter is in turn broken into two separate
meters, each representing one of the 2 processors in my Mac (as I've
been told). I'm just not clear which processor performs which
task. I've maxed out the right side, and therefore get ASIO
performance failure messages at certain points in my current song.
I've tried freezing tracks that send to reverbs via sends, but it
doesn't seem to help terribly much. What are all the things that
max out that right meter? Do crossfades contribute to the load at
all?
Also, how do I freeze tracks and their respective bus send
destinations (e.g., reverbs)? I notice that when I freeze tracks
that send to these buses, it does not seem to make much of a
difference in the CPU meter, so I figure this is not freezing the
reverb itself. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding this. Any help is
appreciated!
Thanks,
David

hello. i don't think that anyone has responded to this email yet.
i don't have an answer really. in fact, i have another question regarding
the CPU meters:
I also have a dual processor G4, but logic only shows one audio meter.
it fills up mighty quick too. is there something special that i need
to do to take advantage of both processors in logic? or are both
processors working, but only represented in the one meter?
sorry that i didn't answer your original question david...but thanks
for bringing up something that i've been meaning to ask.
thanks,

Hi Guys,
If you only have 2 meters, one for midi and one for audio, you are
either on OSX or in OS9 in single processor mode. Lets look at each
one..
1st. In OSX you have no control over making your processors do
anything. OSX is optimized for dual processors, so you only see the one
meter for audio.
2nd. OS9 in single processor mode. 1st, open you audio drivers prefs.
Check the dual processor support. reboot. you will then have 2 meters,
an audio meter with 2 level meters, and the one disc I/O meter, which
will look the same but will be thicker.
OS9 dual mode meters are as follows..
The audio meter is divided into 2 parts..
1st midi graphics, live inputs, busses.
2nd meter, audio dsp.
The fat meter is disc I/O and is to let you know how much data is being
streamed from the hard disc to the app.
Now the way to make your computer work with all the available dsp is
to add an I/O helper to an audio track, which will make it appear as a
live input to Logic, and it will use the 1st half of the audio meter..
Hope this helps..
George

I'm really confused. I have a dual processor 1.25 gig G4. Multiprocessor
support is checked in the audio prefs. I open the system performance
window, but I see one display with two meters- left meter says audio, right
says disk i/o. My audio meter is not divided into 2 parts. Wazzup with
that?

Is multiprocessor support selected in your Audio drivers prefs page?

I also do not see two audio meters, I see one.
That's one, one audio meter (then sfx of lightning) says the Count.
(If this means nothing go back to Sesame Street)
Logic 6
OS 9.2.2
dual 1gHz
I was told by Sound Technology (UK distributor) that this is
correct, there is only one audio meter

Well sometimes I guess they lie.
Gareth
OS9.22, Logic 6 on a Dual 533 (upgraded to a dual 1.2Ghz)
Very definitely 2 audio meters on mine 'cause I like to use the I/O plug in
trick to see if I can overload the left one before the right one ..just for
kicks! I'm a little weird, I admit it.

They definitely do... :-)
You might try this:
Make sure that you have the Apple CPU Plugins sitting in a folder called
Multiprocessing in your system extensions folder.
That did the trick on my system: 1.25DP G4, Logic 6, OS 9.2.2.
Without I had just one audio meter.

That folder is empty
How do I get the Apple CPU plugins to be there?

Make a fresh install of OS 9.2.2 with the disks that came with your mac.
Best,
Helge

Would this mean reinstallation of all my software?
