Try this: Double click the "Midi in" button in the matrix editor. Then each time you press a note on your keyboard it will enter a note in your sequence at the velocity you triggered the note at. The length of the note entered is set by your division format in the transport window. If you want to enter a rest after a note, tap on your sustain pedal and Logic will advance the SPL by one division increment at a time. If you want to sustain the note you entered simply step on the sustain pedal while still holding the note on your keyboard down. The note length will be extended by one division increment with each tap of the sustain pedal.
