LAP 5.5.1
WIN XP
i am a veteran reason user and bought logic about a year ago and
just now kinda getting used to it. ive been reading these posts for
a little while now and finally have a question, which i hope someone
can help me with. im just trying to find an efficient way to write a
drum beat using ni battery. usually i just hit record and just play
something on my keyboard. but its pretty hard for me to play real
fast tempo beats on the fly so i want to write it out in the matrix
editor. on the left side of the matrix editor there is a piano. when
i press these keys with the mouse cursor i would like to be able to
hear the note being played but i get no sound. is there something i
can tweak in my environment or main settings to get this to work? if
i have midi notes drawn out and i click on them and or drag them i
can hear that, but why cant i hear the piano? whats the point of it
then? i just want to know what note my cymbal or kick drum is
assigned to without having to flip to battery or draw out notes and
play them. hope that made sense and thanks in advance for any advice.
If you have 'midi out'active then the notes you play will be sent to the
instrument on the currently selected arrange track.
The key command is usually 'I' for midi in and 'O' for midi out.
It's all in the matrix chapter of the manual.

You should have the track selected in the arrange window to hear edits in
Matrix window..
That's for Audio Instruments..
Logic's limitation..
