So I don't have to have my speakers blast at me everytime I put a compressor
on something and the default is set to auto gain etc?

I presume you mean so that auto gain is off when you insert the
compressor as opposed to "Save setting as" (in the drop down menu
just to the right of the bypass switch). The latter won't solve your
problem, you still need to load the compressor before loading your
default.
I'm not sure you can do this so I'd suggest either
A) Stop the sequencer before inserting the compressor, turn off auto
gain and start the sequencer again
B) Record your tracks louder in the first place so that the gain
make up is not so drastic. Compress mildly (analogue) on recording
and then a bit more when mixing in Logic.
It sounds like B is worth investigating. Unless your track
absolutely needs to have a wide dynamic (in which case why compress
anyway?), I think it is always a good idea to get as much level as
possible at the A/D stage. I find the best way to do this is to use
a compressor at the analogue stage. Without this I find myself
having to either record with too much headroom or trashing some good
takes that unexpectedly clip.

I'll rephrase my question to make it simpler.
Can I save the default setting so when I insert a compressor it has the
settings that I have saved. All I would have to do is have the threshold set
to max and there would be no compression.
