This is the way Cubase SX works in the piano roll (Matrix) editor, except
that it only requires a single click on the note to make it
"active". Then
pressing the same note as selected will alter velocity (and pitch, if a
different note is selected.) It's not really replacing the note as length
stays the same. After a note is modified the next note in the sequence
becomes active awaiting
input.
