This is from the Logic Support team:
Emagic will offer an update to Logic Audio 6 but the date has not been set
at this time. Logic Platinum was announced January 16th, 2003 and free
upgrades to Platinum 6 must be purchased within 90 days of the
announcement. Other levels of Logic (Gold, Audio) do not apply to the
Platinum announcement.
Logic Audio 5 upgrades to Logic Platinum 6 for $499 US plus shipping (and
tax in California.) If you purchased Logic Audio 5 as part of the BigBox,
you can upgrade your EXSP24 to the EXS24 for $149, the EVP73 to the EVP88
for $69, or both the EXS and EVP for $199. If you would like to order this
or any other updates, please call the sales line listed below.
There will be a solution for EXSP and EVP73 users very soon however the
release date of that solution is not known at this time.

Do you mean to say that the offer of free updates of logic audio wouldn't
work like the platinum upgrade ? so for people who purchased logic audio (as
in the bigbox version) within 90 days of the anouncement of logic audio
and gold (last week!) have to pay for an upgrade to logic 6?
I'm confused

AFAIK the same policy applies to Logic Audio 6 which will be out in about 3
weeks.
Contact Emagic for more info....they will more than likely upgrade you to 6
if you bought the Big Box in the past couple of months!

I contacted Emagic Germany and I got a mesage from their local (Dutch)
distributor that i am not entitled for a free upgrade for the Logic
Big Box that I bought on January 28. This was their answer:
<begin quote>
No, you won‚t receive a free update to version 6. The updates are free
for customer buying the product at or after publicity date, which was
in this case the end of march.
<end quote>
Are there other people in Europe who received a similar reply from Emagic?
Peter de Waal.
I've just received an email from the italian distributor:
he says that the upgrade from logic gold 5.5 to logic 6 is not free,
even if I have bought it on 23/3.
Too many contradictions.
The guys at musiciansgear are going to hear from me soon.
I'm confused about the Logic 5/5.5/Gold/Platinum/6/crossgrade ... morass.
So I want to crossgrade to Logic. It doesn't seem as if Emagic offers
a standard crossgrade price the way Steinberg and MOTU do. Is this
correct, or have I missed something?
So I can get a brand new copy of the Logic Big Box for, oh, US$250.
This includes, if I'm not mistaken, Logic Audio 5 Silver, the lowest rung
on the totem pole.
Is it possible to upgrade from Silver (Audio) to Gold or Platinum? Does
one first need to upgrade to 5.5 or 5.5 Gold/Platinum before one can
upgrade to 6 Gold/Platinum? And why doesn't the Emagic online store seem to
sell their own flagship product?
Thanks in advance,
ned

I also have questions on crossgrades.
Does Emagic offer any cross-platform crossgrades to logic for a PC
cubase owner?
I'm guessing no, but thought it might be worth a try.
Thanks!

We can speculate about this on the list, and people can give you what
deals they got due to such-and-such a circumstance, but really, the
place to go for canonical answers to these complicated questions is your
local distributor. In the US, that's good ol' eMagicUSA. You can call
them at (530) 477-1051.

Yes, you just need to purchase the Logic Gold or Logic Platinum
Competitive Upgrade. Logic Silver (now called Logic Audio)
qualifies for this. This can be bought at retail stores, like
<www.savedbytechnology.com> in Toronto.

The kind folks at eMagicUSA provided me with the following information:
* Competetive Upgrades do exist.
* Platinum 6 CU is just starting to ship. Gold/Audio 6 CUs don't
yet exist.
* If you buy any 5.x series CU (or full version) now, you will be
eligible for a FREE (he said free, I heard him!) upgrade to 6.
And before I get flamed for asking a question the answer to which exists
on the website, let me just say that I've spent quite a while perusing the
"Comparison" of Logic 6 Audio/Gold/Platinum. The main differences
between
Gold and Platinum seem to be
* Pro Tools support
* some plug-ins.
I don't really care about Pro Tools support, but seeing as how the plug-ins
apparently aren't available separately, I'm wondering how useful things like
Spectral Gate, the Multipressor, et cetera are to people. Is it worth the
extra cash? I'm just a home studio musician; I'm not doing extensive video
work, or scoring film soundtracks, or anything of the sort.

They shouldn't be surprised to find people that doesn't buy from them;
they ask 200€ more than other dealers...
