If you want to change to Mac OS X - and OMS will not be adapted to it
by "someone", yes.

It's not our decision. There simply is no de-facto standard for
multi-port MIDI interfaces on USB, so every manufacturer provided OMS
or FreeMIDI drivers. In contrast to the MTP de-facto standard on the
serial port, the low-level communication is different for every USB
interface - and it is not documented. So even if we wanted to support
third-party interfaces on USB, it would be a lot of work or even not
possible.
If you say we "protect our market" (because we support only our
own
interfaces directly), then you can also say that all other
manufacturers simply don't want to sell their USB interfaces, as they
only have OMS or FreeMIDI compatibility and no direct support at all.
OMS has become the de-facto standard for USB interfaces on the Mac.
There is a proposal from the USB committee, but it arrived too late,
so there are already a number of interfaces which don't follow this
proposal.
USB interfaces on Mac OS X will require an OMS which is Mac OS X
compatible - which is currently not the case.
