Subject: DSP assistance, Native & PTools
Message #8857
This is an interesting issue. I too, dont understand why there are not more 'DSP assistance' cards on the market that could give PT a run for its latency. I thought the Yamaha DSP Factory would be like that, but there seems to be a latency issue there too. Also, I don't know about you lot but I *have* to send & return to external FX & bring in an external digital mixer and/or have an interface with lots of inputs. I like to work from the screen. Wait a sec..isnt that Pro Tools? But I'm sure it could be done cheaper, something like this Interface with 12/24 analogue ins & outs & digital in/out (SPD/IF & ADAT type) Sends & returns to outboard gear DSP dedicated to providing 24 audio tracks basic EQ, Compression etc and Mixing, with Low latency. We always need these things. perhaps using a ROM based VST emulator so you could program in your own. Ability to route native Tracks FX and Virtual instruments through the interface This would allow a predictable number of tracks and basic facilities and allow the advantages of 'native' to also be used. I dont see why this couldnt be built for under 2K UK pounds. Maybe 1K. It'd sell like hot potatoes. The best of both worlds I think.
