Mike, firstly, you have way too much money on your hands! The VSL is one
find sample library and would be keen to know your thoughts on the quality
(or anyone on this list) about them [Privately pls!]. To answer your
questions re: manual, I've never really found it that intuitive to learn
from. My initial learning comes from either tutoring, or using the guide
and online help as a reference to figure out a shorter way of doing
something. My personal recommendation would be to find someone in your
local area that can show you some basic navigation and short cut tricks to
get you up and running!
There was mention of the logic 6 manual coming out in the next few weeks, so
hopefully the version you will receive shipping will contain the manual.
Apparently it has been written from the ground up.
For tidiness, I would recommend a second drive on the ATA-100 bus. Leave
the primary partition for the OS, programs and personal documents &
projects. Keep the second drive for samples and other, larger projects. An
8 meg cache will improve disk performance, but that depends on whether your
going to be streaming lots of audio from the disk or from RAM - VSM (A logic
feature introduced with V5) allows you the option of streaming from disk or
ram with regards to samples, predominantly the EXS (from memory). The
caching of data will also benefit the OS, and samples, especially when
swapping in/out memory.
Hope this helps.
Jase.
