Should be pretty easy. And your electric bill?? For the money the "fridge" used in one month of constant operation you could purchase a quiet water cool system and a couple of silent fans by stealth. They are traditionally used by Windows guys overclocking quite a bit... For Windows PCs Koolance comes highly recommended from Mr. Scott Reams of LiquidDAW.com -- http://koolance.com/products/index.html? category_id=2 They even have some liquid hard drive coolers. No idea if any of this stuff is Mac compatible though. However water cooling kits are a bit expensive and are usually overkill unless you are going to be overclocking quite a bit. For my new machine I just ordered a silent Zalman CPU fan - CNPS6000CU for USD $45.45 including shipping from sharkacorp.com ... It should be silent enough since I don't plan to overclock, plus I don't have to worry about water possibly leaking inside of the case. Note the regular Koolance water coolers have 2 or 3 big fans sitting on top of an external enclosure which could very well end up being just as loud as the G4s to begin with. Jeremy

The poster meant any refrigeration via a...refrigerator...would cost obscenely high. Refrigerators are notorious as just about the single most energy wasteful appliance and "only" making it keep the temperature around 70 degrees or whatever is not going to save you any over running a "normal" refrigerator with food because you are making it work against the computer generating heat whereas a refrigerator under normal circumstances does not have elements actively producing generous amounts of heat within it. Besides, how would you get you cables in/out of the refrigerator? ;) Take care Jesse Widener

I looked at the link (http://dtekcustoms.safeshopper.com/index.htm?883) and it looked indeed like I could do exactly that. Looks like the whole schmeer would cost right around $200. I have a machine room so this issue is not as big a deal for me as it is for some of my friends who would very gladly pay $200 for some peace and quiet. >The poster meant any refrigeration >via a...refrigerator...would cost obscenely high. That was not my suggestion. I would just go ahead and run the thing cold. >Besides, how would you get you cables in/out of the refrigerator? ;) I'd make a hole for them and stuff felt around the cables to keep the air from flowing in and out.

LOL - you guys sound like fanatic pc overclockers ;-D I am "the original poster" and my question was not about refrigerators. I was wondering if someone had any thoughts on the possible noise factor of an eventual future IBM 970 Mac? The background was the article at http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,57793,00.html?tw=wn_ascii and some other threads here. Personally I just cancelled my order for a new "Only OSX" Mac and will instead buy a dirt cheap used G4 to play around with v.6 while keeping my pc based 5.5 system as the main studio workhorse. Somehow it just doesn't feel as the time is right to go for a brand new mac system these days? Best wishes Per Boysen ________________ www.boysen.se www.looproom.com --> 1st Swedish Looping Festival
