Does yours have a Firewire 800 port in addition to standard > Firewire? (it would be a noticeably different port than standard > Firewire). Do you have 2 megs of L3 cache on EACH chip? i.e. 4 megs > total? Is your machine any "quieter" under OS X than OS 9? It has a Firewire 800 port (I think the old machines had only Firewire 400). It has 1 meg of L3 on each chip, 2 megs total (I think the old machines had 2MB/chip). It does not boot into OS9 (I think the old machines did). The apple website said my serial number did not need the fan/PS update. All these things together would seem to indicate it is the newest generation, also since I ordered it and recieved it from Apple a couple of weeks ago. I would be happy to find out I can make it quieter, but it seems that I will have to use external acoustic means to achieve that... Thanks, smeet

Have you given Apple a call and asked about it? Perhaps something to the effect of, "I understand the last lineup of G4 towers had a noise issue which Apple has supposedly fixed since. I just received my brand new G4 tower and it still seems quite loud to me. Is there anything I can do about this?". Take care Jesse Widener
