I booted my brand-spankin-new DP 1.25GHz Mac last night, and it sounds loud as heck to me. It's MUCH louder than my 8500, and quite a bit louder than our Dell desktop. I can live with it, but I'm disappointed. If this is the new quiet machine, I truly pity the owners of the old louder machines. Anyway, it's not great, but I guess as machines get faster and hotter, it's to be expected... On the plus side, OSX and the machine in general both ROCK!!! I can't wait for Logic 6 to get delivered, I'm going to jump fully into LogicX and take my lumps... -smeet

There's really no cheap solution that I found unless you want to do mods to your computer and void the warranty. Do you have one of the BRAND NEW Macs that just came out, or do you have one of the original mirror door Macs? If you have the original, Apple is offering a swapping of the power supply fan for a S/H charge of $20. See http://www.g4noise.com/news/1045858949.htm or the Apple site for details. Here's the form you will need: http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g4mirror/fan_power_supply.pdf If you have one of the brand-new generation Macs, then your computer is already quieter than mine and I don't know what to tell you other than purchasing one of the pricey isolation containers on the marcket today: 1) IsoRaxx from Raxxess(about $1,200), 2) KK Audio makes one too if you can find it 3) Acoustilock (more expensive but transfers out heat very well), and the last one is the CoolMac Silencer from http://crywolf.net for about $800. Don't forget to add about $150 to $200 in shipping costs because this sucker is damn heavy! Here's an informative (and entertaining) site: http://www.g4noise.com/ If you find anything else, I'd like to know. I feel like I've researched this thing to death for myself.
