I have a 400mhz G4 powerbook and logic on OSX runs has well as OS 9 with the exception that OSX doesn't crash as much. My details: OS: 10.2.4 Audio Interface: MOTU 828 Computer: PB 400 mhz Ram: 640 mb HD: 44 gig IBM travelstar. i.e. Not the standard drive Logic Platinum: 5.5 Session info: 24 tracks - audio tracks 1 track - AU Instrument track playing the Apple Built-In Software synth 6 busses 12 compressors 6 delays 12 fat Eq's 5 plat reverbs 6 exciters 4 noise gates and a few others... I recorded all audio tracks without effects (dry) with a low buffer setting for latency. In mix down, I increased the buffer settings so i could add effects, latency is not an issue for me in mastering, others might think so. Not a single crash or choke. CPU is not max out either. But this might just be me. m

Until I realized I had not upgraded the firewire driver. I got the 10.2.4 updater from the apple site and the problem is solved. I think this is a rock solid system now too RBHProductions

I've actually found _audio_ performance increased. . soft synths, audio mixing. . everything. . .im guessing this had to do with improved Core Audio, and that G4 owners might not notice a difference as the G4 optimizations make it fast in OS9 or OSX anyway. the only thing that runs a little slower for me are screen redraws. . but because my iBook had a 32 meg video card i can use Quartz extreme. This is based on normal observations .. running 12-24 tracks with upwards of 6 or 8 soft synths for drums, basses and pads and audio tracks for vox and guitar and miscellanious samples. i havent done extreme stress testing like seeing how many voices i can get at once on 24 audio instruments or anything. . . im looking forward to my logic 6 upgrade to see how much better it gets still.

Subject: [LUG] [LAM] Guide to tweaking OS X 10.2.4?
Message #134095
This is a reply to #134032.
Is there a good guide to optimizing 10.2.4 for Logic out there somewhere? I've got a song that I can play in 9.2.2 but can't play in 10.2.4 with all the instruments. I get an overload error, or what ever it's called. The song has 5 instances of exs24,(one rhodes and 2 pads, I know ployphony eats up the cpu), 1 Esp, and 1 Ese. 1 Plat reverb and 1 tape delay on a bus. G4 867 896 RAM 10.2.4 9.2.2 Logic 5.5 Any ideas would be greatly appreciated because I know nothing about tweaking OS X for audio. Thanks ===="You blow in this end of the trombone, and sound comes out the other end and disrupts the cosmos." Roswell Rudd Check out the Pat Hall @ http://www.mp3.com/pathall/
