Subject: [LAM] Update from 4 -> 5 not possible without v4 cd!? WHAT!?!
Message #131833
Hello, this really made me pissed. I updated to OS X and was planning to update my Logic also from 4 -> 5. Being a legal owner of Logic 4 I was told from the local distributor that the update requires the dongle _and_ software cd-rom. The last article is understandable but injustice in many ways!!! Think of the many Emagic customers who keep buying the software/hardware and suddenly they're being treated like they were all thieves!? Who _could have known_ back then that "oh, I can't lost the cd-rom because in the future I have to give it back so I can update?" I'm sure there are more people out there who have lost the cd-rom somewhere, especially after every place being full of cd-r's. Anyway, I still have the dongle of course but it's USELESS now for this mission. I was told that the only way out here is to pay the full price of version 5. UNBELIEVABLE. This can NOT be the way a major software company treats it's loyal customers. The explanation from the distributor to this outrage was that "we can't make sure that the dongle is to version 4, it also could be to version 3." Think of the software technology today. We can emulate grands, basses, guitars, correct singing, emulate rooms and synths.... and with all of these miracles it's impossible to resolve one dongle issue!? And for THAT reason I'm required to pay the full price!? The situation is unacceptable, Emagic, ladies and gentlemen. It really is. <snipped by admin> Hopefully some replies from Emagic to this post will follow to work this problem out. There must be a solution. Still have a little hope left in the back of this ugly head. ;) After all these years... I think I've deserved it. Cheers, -Aleksi -aleksi.bovellan@... -Composer/Producer / HeyDay / www.heyday.fi

Please, when the 5 upgrade came out, we've had this same discussion for weeks. We're now near version *6*... Let's not rehash this whole discussion. You can always make a copy of your v4 CD and download the piece of (Mac) software that allows v4 to run with the xskey -- no v4 dongle needed, and since you still have a copy of the CD, nothing's lost. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com

Hi, OK, with the new update it looks as if a move to the MAC is on the cards. Will my 1212 work with OSX? Many thanks, Steve Knee Cloudbass Multimedia www.cloudbass.com

Of course that would be nice, but perhaps you missed the whole point here: I have already lost my v.4 software CD long ago. I *can't* make a copy of it, neither can I update to v.5 because it is required. -Aleksi -aleksi.bovellan@... -Producer / HeyDay / www.heyday.fi

No. That had annoyed me for quite a while now but: I bought a MotU 828 as replacement and it simply blew me away. Better latency, better sound and still all of 1212's features plus more converters. And, I'm now mobile with the iBook 8-)) Just keep the 1212 in the PC and use it as VST workhorse extension. - You can then use ADAT optical to get the Audio over to the Mac!!! Whenever I've had any issues regarding my Logic licenses, I've called Dave Smith at Emagic USA (don't know where you're located, I'm in Canada) and he's always been very reasonable. If you're a registered Logic user and you've got a dongle, you should be able to work it out with them. Rob DeBoer

I just saw the "I have to give the CD back and I'm angry" part, and responded to that. I know that back when v5 came out, quite a few users didn't have their original CDs anymore, and Emagic worked out some sort of individual solution for such people. According to your previous post, your distributor says you have to pay the full price for v5 now, which indeed would be outrageous. If that is indeed the case, I would mail Emagic Germany directly, at support@..., and explain the issue, including the reply of your distributor. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra <h@...> Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com

I had the same problem last year, and I started a huge thread here. Do a search on the archives if you want to read it... Tip: Contact emagic directly... Regards, Peter --- http://www.merlinsound.de

One other thought if Emagic can't be of any further help: I bet there are some pretty cheap copies of LAWP on Ebay etc... You could always buy one of them just to use the original CD to upgrade with.
