god the marquis tool will make life so much easier. that, grouping,
freezing, the channel strip, the new eq (with analyzer??? wow), the project
manager, sample accurate arrange view, EPIC TDM plugs and the new Automation
quick access will make the upgrade really great! And for $129? sounds like
Emagic is really going to take over, tat least in my world.

Freeze is a lot slower than I thought. It must take about a minute to
freeze a whole track in a 5 minute song. It's still a nice function
though. I wonder if you can freeze many tracks at once.
All, glad you found the video useful.
We wondered why the hits for that item had gone up.
Phil was very accommodating and gave us a good demo. We are thinking
of other video formats but Real is the easiest one for us to render
straight from Vegas (PC) What would be the choice of you lot for
ease of access?
BTW, we have other video on the site too:

The trouble with Real is that you can't keep a copy locally - if you
want to watch it again you have to stream it all again. Some of us pay
for our bandwidth, including yourselves probably...
Forget Real and other proprietary formats, make it downloadable MPEG
format (the standard version, NOT Microsoft's proprietary windows
media variant). Many browsers/plugins can stream standard MPEG anyway,
and we'd have the option to download for repeat viewing.

Here's the trick to download Real streaming files:
Dowload the .ram file, open it in a text editor, there you will find the
file it'll link to. Save that using a download manager.
Just downloading the P.Jackson video that way.

Thanks a lot for hosting this video. Phil Jackson is a fantastic presenter,
is fluid with the software (and the keys), and his enthusiasm is
contagious. His accent is pretty cool as well!
Personally, I find RealVideo to be fine (I'm on a Mac).

Aything BUT real
I wont install any real stuff as it likes to take over your
computer, forces updates etc.
any avi, mpg or qt shold be universal enough.

What about Quicktime 6?
I know it's a Mac format but isn't it available for PC too?
The streaming is generally far better than Real in my experience.
Quality seems better too.....
Thanks again

We might look into that for the upcoming MESSE coverage - I was under
the impression that Real had a wider uptake than other 3rd party
media systems.
Anyone know how big the QT6 download is?
Nick.

Nick,
Check out this page on the Apple site:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/
It's all there......the player, server, broadcaster, more than I need
to know but probably what you're after.

Except that Real is not standard on the Mac (and is not free afaik).
Surely Quicktime is the obvious choice...

The Real player is indeed free. For streaming it is the de facto
standard, but QT is also cross platform and of better quality imho (and
more flexible). In addition, QT is really just a media container so you
can actually do a lot of interesting thing within QT. Unfortunately for
some reason authoring apps that access sprites have never really taken
off...
