Hi All,
Standing at the sidelines watching all the OSX stuff starting to (painfully)
slowly start to happen. I'm going to ask the taboo question that has been on
my mind now for some time and dares not be asked.... but I'm going to ask:
Why is it that it seems there is so much difficulty in getting PCI audio
card (drivers) to function under OSX? Development for USB and Firewire audio
devices seems to be slowly coming along. But is there some inherant
incompatibility between PCI audio cards in general and OSX?
I don't count TDM hardware, because that's sort of in a class of it's own.
The Emagic Audiowerk drivers for OSX seem to be problematic at best. I think
there may be some Delta card drivers, but they seem to be problematic too.
Are there any native PCI audio cards actually functioning properly under
OSX? if not, will they ever?
I suspect one of the reasons Apple has upped the firewire spec recently is
because of the inevitable demise of PCI cards with OSX, at least for audio.
This is just my own personal theory..... any insights into this?

I second your opinion.
I bought a Delta 1010LT and there are issues under OS X while it works
perfectly well under OS 9.
1. The sample buffer setting in logic doesn´t affect the card.
2. All settings are not being saved in preferences. (Hardware settings
dB)
3. The crackles and pops are gone since 10.2.3 though.
But I also feel that these issues will be solved.
Another thing I want to know is how to make a midi configuration.
I have midi in/out from the Delta Card + a midi interface (Midisport
2x2) and a usb keystation unit.
There are more midi in/outs than I need.
When I try to do a new midi configuration (i.e delete the ports I
don´t
use)
the next time I open the config. it is scanning thru the computer for
midi ports and "voila", all midiports are back again.
It is therefore impossible to get rid of unnessecary ports using the
audio/midi preferences application.
Does anyone know of a solution except removing the drivers from the
system?

Yes we are going to do AU for Logic. It will probably be sometime
March/April (Hopefully)

Eli,
It does seem that FW and USB have been given more of a push than PCI
audio when it comes to drivers. Perhaps they are easier to code or better
documented?? However, there were several PCI manufacturers that
announced forthcoming OS 10 drivers at NAMM. (as well as Motu FINALLY
announcing driver support)
My AW2 works great in OS 10.2.3- as long as I don't leave Logic open and
unattended for lengthy periods of time. It also has sleep issues (even if
only
putting monitors to sleep, sometimes they won't "wake up"). But I
have no
channel swapping, crackles, or pops that others struggled w/ in OS 9. And so
far, none of the super annoying problem that the AW2 thinks it's an AW8 and
is unrecoginzed by Logic. (Don't know if others struggled w/ this or if my
AW2
is slightly defective.)

Russ
