Yes, of course that would work. It could take a lot longer, though, and
therefore wouldn't facilitate the "creative process" as well as
the other
method in certain circumstances, or for a certain way of working. [Load
plug, find effect, then open automation data, and bypass every relevant
parameter except during the region; versus Load plug, find effect,
process.] Why not have both options?

I have always thought that the audio editor would have been better
served as extra options in the arrange. It would be great, wouldn't it,
to highlight a section of audio or a region and destructively process it
(reverse, normalize, process with a plug in)? There isn't really
anything that you do in the audio editor that you shouldn't be able to
do in the arrange (except maybe moving anchor points...and that would be
better suited to the audio window no?) I also really like Vegas where
each clip can have it's own settings (plugin, volume, etc.)

Hi,
Still looking for some elementry answers. Sorry to
take up so much of your time, I guess I will would
just feel alot better if knew how to do it the right
way. As as of now, im just having to add audio
channels to seperate the effects. Thanks I just need
to know how to select one piece of audio out of a
track and then add effects to it. Such as, add a
little verb to the vocal on track one. Not the whole
track, but just in pieces?
Thanks

Well, there have been , but they've presumedly been filtered,
maybe too sarcastic...
Anyway, i'd again like to propose using the automation for that.
Automate the sends to the fx, automate the plugin bypasses, or
their dry/wet ratio, automate fx returns' levels, pans and/or mutes.
Quick, easy and tried'n'tested for ages. No need to apply fx
destructively to any audio, cause this, as the name implies,
usually makes you end up in deep sh*t when you (or someone
else) happen to change your mind later on which is usually the
case *unless* you have clean backups on the other track.

Given the abundance of tracks and the size on displays we're
supplied with today, this is also a sensible approach, in that it
helps visualizing what's going on.

Why not just automate the effect? Isn't the "bypass" function for
an
effect controllable by automation? If not, then setup an effects bus
and automate the volume or mute status of that track. Put a reverb on
the bus, send signal from your vocal track to the bus, then mute and
unmute the bus track wherever you want.

Dear Jonathan,
I commonly edit music for dancers and employ the following strategy in my
autoload for this task:
Set one track as the designated FX track.
Leave the original track in place with no FX.
Cut the section(s) you want to add FX to.
option drag the section to the 'FX Track'
(this copies the section to the FX track and leaves the original in tact)
Adjust as needed
(fade in region, automate volume of the FX track separately.. etc)
Hope this helps.... Steven
