Subject: [LUG] [GEN] Using 01v as control surface
Message #131715
Hello. I'm new. I had a search through the archives, but I couldn't find an answer to this. With the new track based automation, I'm tearing my hair out trying to get the remote fader pages of my Yamaha 01v to control logic as it used to (including being able to record the moves). I've set up a transformer with the Track Automation Splitter (True -> Top Cable) option, set to convert MIDI control #7 on all channels to a Fader message on channel 1 (since all I really want o be able to do is control the volume). (I followed all these instructions from Sound on Sound by the way). If I cable a monitor after that, everything seems to react as it should, with messages like F 1 3 90 if I'm moving my fader that transmits on MIDI channel 3. However, then the problems begin. If I run another cable to an audio object, suddenly the monitor stops showing any input at all, and the audio object reacts to the incoming MIDI as if the MIDI channel was the controller number (i.e. if I move the fader that sends out Controller #7 on MIDI channel 3, it turns the solo on and off). Which would be OK, but MIDI channel 7 doesn't change the volume. I'm not a super MIDI boffin, the 01v is sending MIDI messages of the form 1st byte: MIDI channel (e.g. B3 in hex), 2nd byte: controller number (e.g 07 in hex), 3rd byte: value (on my 01v the third byte is FAD to indicate it's a fader). Anyone know what's going on, or know where there's an environment I can download to address this issue? Nigel Powell

Nope. You changed channel 3 cc7 to channel 1 cc 3, which is the solo button. > > suddenly the monitor stops showing any input at all Track automation splitters do work only when patched into an Audio Object *directly*. Besides, there's a pretty nasty bug looming, which you can read up here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/message/147256 Christian

Volume and Pan need CC messages (7 and 10), not Fader messages. Everything else uses Fader messages. > > react as it should, with messages like F 1 3 90 > > if I'm moving my fader that transmits on MIDI channel 3. That's a Solo message on channel 1...
