Not the same thing. Freeze will apply to an entire track. I like to be
able to just apply an effect to individual regions on a track - it might be
an effect that I don't want to use anywhere else on the track. If I do this
ten times on the same track with different effects it would mean using ten
plugs and a whole bunch of automation. I just want to have
"process" button
on all plug-ins, like Audiosuite/Premiere, or "bounce VST effects"
as in
Peak. StudiVision made this so easy -- process the region: a new file was
created and popped into place: the old region could always be put back in
its' place.
Example (single track): Drastic EQ phrase 1. Distort phrase 5. Mangle
Phrase 7. Reverse and EQ Phrase 11 with a weird filter envelope. etc. etc.

Hi Jonathan-
I suspect what Teddy meant was that you could automate the bypass for
the fx (which, of course, you can do now) and then regain the processing
power by using the upcoming "freeze" feature.
I agree that being able to destructively edit regions and set individual
volumes, etc. would be cool. But the freeze function will accomplish a
lot of the same things (although you need to think about it a little
differently).
