I can even switch back and forth between Audigy and Audiophile during the same session, so I guess I did something right this time. Disabling anti-virus and stuff might have been the trick. Oh, and about not installing the extra fluff... I've learned the hard way never to do that. You sorta get to learn that early on with Creative, I remember back in the DOS days when you had to load 40k of lomem drivers just to set the volume to max so you could hear anything... Anyway, it works fine, I'm surrounding away like mad over here. Johan Althoff sound, music and game designer Starbreeze Studios www.starbreeze.com

I had a slight scare a couple of weeks ago when I wanted to run some digital audio in from an Oasys PCI card running on another machine via SPDIF, and couldn't find the utility that let me change the Audigy's default rate down to 48k from the default 96k. I reinstalled a couple of additional Audigy utilities, managed to happily run the audio in, but found - horrors! - that the Audigy ASIO driver no longer worked properly (giving that error message). I didn't want to waste time isolating exactly what was screwing the thing up, so I just did a system restore to get things back and working again. > Oh, and about not installing the extra fluff... Last I checked, "Sound Recorder" definitely messed things up and their "PlayCentre" [sp?] thing probably did, too. "WaveStudio" seems to be fine, which is good because it's useful for recording or editing long stereo recordings easily. I recently set up the full Creative suite up on my second partition to use the Wave>MP3 convert feature, which is strangely lacking on some other software. So now I've "printed" various stuff from logic as wave files, turned them into MP3, and moved them to my Clie handheld, so I can listen to them on the bus! :-) > Anyway, it works fine, I'm surrounding away like mad over here. Cool! If you wanted to get really mental, you could try adding a second Audigy card, the Audigy ASIO driver is multi-card, so depending on your software, it can be a cheap way of doubling the number of ins and outs. (Unfortunately, some software has an upper limit to the number of ASIO ports that can be accessed, and last time I looked, Reaktor could see all the ports on two Audigy cards, but logic couldn't. Don't know if that's fixed on logic 5.5 or not.) [Erk]
