Subject: [LAM] Motu Vs. RME?
Message #131589
Hi y'all, Since I upgraded to a Quicksilver mac DP 1 Ghz, I haven't settled on a new audio interface yet. My old card, the Lexicon Core 32 (one of the great technological white elephants of all time) will go to rest in my Gigastudio PC. My system also includes a Tascam DM24 mixer (with TDIF i/o), and a UAD1 card. I'm trying to pick between the RME 96/52 DSP and the Motu 2408 Mk3. Which do you suggest? Seems like the RME has the best PCI usage and lowest latency for VSTi's, but lack of TDIF and analog i/o means buying add-on modules, tying up more space on theback of the computer... The MOTU Mk.3 is a little pricier, but the i/o flexibility seems tailor made for my system. But what's the latency like with Logic, and what about this PCI bus- hog issue? Suggestions? Warnings? Cash donations? Lemme know, Thanks

But what's the latency like with Logic, and what about this PCI bus- >hog issue? I have an RME HDSP 9652 and I've been really happy with it. Works great under both OS 9.2 and OSX (MIDI doesn't work with OSX yet), really low CPU load for many tracks of audio, and the low latency is very cool, I'd had to adjust my playing to the Korg 1212 I used to have, with very high latency, now I find I rush everthing. I noticed on the RME website that they now have a TDIF expansion board http://www.rme-audio.com/english/aeb/teb.htm, which may influence your decision.
