The XSkey is one very valuable little piece. I wonder how sensitive it is to
mechanical wear and tear. It is very convenient to keep the XSkey in the
key-holder, but can it be damaged by this? What happens if it ceases to
function? Is it easy to get it replaced?

Hi there,
I have it in my keychain, but protected it with one of those tiny USB
connector plastic covers that came with my Apple keyboard. I guess the
only bad thing that can happen to an xskey is to damage the connector
(or losing it... xD)

I keep mine permanently plugged into one of the USB sockets on the back of
my Apple display (the other one goes to the keyboard and mouse, and I
occassionally plug my digital camera into the other USB socket on the
keyboard).
Sort-of like this ASCII-art:
+----+ /============| () | | +---------+ |
|####| | | | [<=XSKey
|####[<====>] | | | +------------[<==Mouse
| | | | | [<=>] Keyboard |
|....| | +---------+ | +------------[<=Êmera
+____+ =============/
All seems to work nicely, and the XSKey is tucked away out of sight.

I would recommend you insure it

Thanks for the advice! Can you insure a keychain? Thought about that
but I believed it couldn't be done.
Actually, I only take it out from my main computer when I need to do
something else in other place. Recently I started using Logic & my
iBook to perform live with EVB3 and sometimes I'm a little worried
about losing my xskey. I'd like to buy a second Logic (Audio or Gold)
plus softsynths for the live work, but I can't at this moment.

Thanks. Good idea, but I cannot keep it permanently connected since my
main=computer is a laptop. I guess I need to get something like Juan's small
pla=stic cover for the connector.

How about a USB extension lead, so that at least you can place the XSKey
somewhere safer than sticking out the side of your Mac?

Now, if emagic did a nice two- or three-button USB mouse, with a
built-in dongle slot (so that the dongle disappears almost entirely
inside the mouse), and maybe a few logic-supported extras, like a
dedicated wheel or something ...
