I am trying to run in rewire mode... with
Logic 5.5 and Reason 2.0 on a pc using an
Audiophile 2496 card (with the midi port
built-in to it)...
But when I click and make Reason 2.0 the
active/foreground application - I get no
midi input... yet I still see notes coming
into Logic in the background...
I asked the Propellerhead technical support
people but... really Reason works fine in Rewire mode
and Reason based sequences run fine in Logic and
all other Rewire operations work fine.
Its just trying to use my midi input for both applications
by toggling between the two... that I cant play
sequences directly in Reason)...
Its like Logic 5.5 is hogging the midi input
(still see midi input here) or the audiophile
2496 card (using its midi input port) is
hogging and not releasing the midi input to
whichever application once Logic is opened.
ALSO - when I have Reasons prefs set to have
a MIDI input set it conflicts with Logic...
When I open Reason after Logic and Reason has
its midi input set - it throws an alert error
saying MIDI PORT is already in use... by Logic
I presume...
any ideas?
thanks for your help or inpur,
DK

DK,
FWIW, if I try to use my old music notation program (Encore) while
Logic Platinum is running Encore tirelessly notifies me that all
referenced MIDI ports are missing, rendering Encore unusable until I
close Logic.

People and some tech support people say there is a setting in Logic
somewhere that is to free up the midi ports when the application goes
in the background... haven't found that yet - gonna call Emagic today...
Reason pushes Logic to the background so this solution would
work for me - if I could find the dang preference setting...

Good lad. Please post the result.
I'm afraid, tho', that it's audio, not MIDI, that can be freed up.
See Options > Preferences > Audio [Global section]. There's a check
box for "Release Audio in Background if Stopped (not possible with
ASIO).

In OMS, under MIDI setup, check "run MIDI in background"... that
should do the trick.

PC not MAC. No OMS.

Sorry, must have missed the "LAW" in the subject ;-)

Sorry - forget it (new here)
Talked to Emagic and they said try either of these:
1. turn off midi ports (or channels? I think its ports) in win.ini
which will free em from logic
or
2. midi yoke / patching utility - patch midi from one app to another
http://www.midiox.com
1. didnt work for me - not sure why but my hardware is only an
audiophile card with a built in midi port
2. attempting this right now... seems like it should work... they
have a logic faq and great support too
http://www.midiox.com/mfaq.htm#howLogic
will report back if it works
