Well I've been playing with since it came out. In fact I've already
done several sessions with it. No problems here and as stated by Yann,
this OS rules (OSX) for it's ease of use, low latency and overall feel.
I've had great results so far using it and as such have no desire to
stick with OS9. I think you'll see a lot more studios make the switch
once the AU versions of Waves stuff come out.
Everything I'm recording since Jan 1st is in OSX and will likely stay
so until the next major OS comes along.
Come join the fun and make some great music!
p.s. - Anyone in the Los Angeles area wanting to see an in-store
demonstration of Logic at an Apple store should come out to the
Northridge Store on Feb. 21st. @ 7 p.m.

I'm not a "real" studio, and much as I'd love to move to OS X for
audio, a few pieces of the puzzle aren't there yet for me:
1 - I am unable to record all 18 simultaneous tracks at low buffer
size (128 samples or better) to either the powerbook internal HD (12
tracks is pushing it) or external 7200rpm firewire (4 tracks is
pushing it!). Logic or CoreAudio appears to buffer too much data and
write to disk too infrequently, causing disk overloads. Using a
firewire drive also causes much higher CPU use. RME say it's not their
fault, their driver has nothing to do with disk writes. Emagic support
won't respond at all (surprise). By comparison, in OS9, I can record
18 tracks to the powerbook internal HD while playing back 18, or
record 18 tracks to firewire while playing back 32+. Perhaps Logic 6
and/or 10.2.4 will fix this.
2 - No PSP plugins yet. I use these all the time.
3 - I have yet to find an equivalent to Hendrik's "Qmk"
keys->midi
utility for OSX that is _simple_ to set up and runs in the background.
I'm beginning to think I might have to write it myself.
4 - The situation whereby adding/removing midi interfaces (I use an
MT4 and MTP AV, the MTP AV is not always attached) causes the midi
input connections to move around is unacceptable.
5 - Phatmatik Pro is not yet ported.

When I had my RME Multiface, It would freeze my Computer if there was a
Firewire PCI Card is present or my MOBO's (A7V333) firewire was enabled.
So i tried it on 3 other computers. It was the same story.
I wanted to use firewire drives so I sold my RME.
Now, I happily use MOTU 896.
All of the above was on a PC using WinXP.

IRQ conflict? What did RME say about it?
Note my firewire disk recording high CPU use in Logic is _only_ in
OSX. OS9 is just fine.

Are there RME Multiface conflicts when a PCI firewire card is present on
Macs?
The RME Multiface might be my first choice for an audio interface in a G3.
However, I'm already using a PCI Firewire/USB combo card. Without that card,
and the XSKey that lives there, I'd have no use for any audio interface.

Don't know. Haven't heard of any though.

If it's a blue-&-white G3, it has firewire/USB onboard. Desktop G3
Macs are getting a little old though, or are you planning on dropping
a G4 ZIF CPU in there?

Actually, I have the Firewire/USB card because I'm quietly running a
333mHz Beige Tower - and yes that's an old machine. When I picked it
up I already had MAC/PC serial equipment for MIDI and ADAT
synchronization. USB replacements were only a promise when the
rumors were swirling about the "new Mac specs". I was in the
middle
of an ADAT project so I ordered the G3 with the waning technology.
When I want to take on the dual G4's acoustic signature AND I can run
or replace specific VST instruments in OS X, the peripherals will
migrate and the G3 will become an office machine.
