Please, somebody tell me that I'm not going mad, and the Performa 6200 is
_not_ a 68k machine!
Here's the story; the college for whom I work, at my instruction, purchased
a copy of Emagic MicroLogicAv. When we got it, it wouldn't run on our two
Performa 6200's; it crashes on launch with and error type 11, demanding a
restart.
I checked the minimum system requirements, which are given as PPC 601,
System 7.5 and 7Mb free. So that's all right then; we had PPC 603, 7.5.1 and
40Mb.
So we called the UK distributers, Sound Technology plc. This is where it
gets weird; they said that the reason it wouldn't run is that MicroLogicAV
doesn't run on a 68k machine, and that some early 6200's, although badged as
PPC's, are actually 68k machines!
This sounds like total bullshit to me! TechTool says our machines have got
PPC 603's in 'em. Everymac.com says our machines are PPC 603. It says Power
PC on the box, dammit!
The guy on the phone went on to admit that they can't get MicroLogicAV to
run on a Performa 6200 either. 'So that means the given system requirements
are wrong?' No, he says, and continues to give me this line about not
supporting 68k.
So please, somebody tell me I'm not going mad and that they're spinning me a
line. Apparently there may be some kind of hardware issue with the 6200,
given that they can't get it to work either. (Anyone got any ideas what that
might be?) But I can't let them get away with this 68k crap!
Any thoughts welcome, then I can get on with shouting some more at Sound
Technology, and probably Emagic as well.
