Seconded! It's rather pricey but Restoration X-Noise did a great job on some
hissy old cassettes of mine. Just use the "fingerprint" method and
listen carefully to check for artefacts before bouncing the result. There's
a fully functional 14-day demo. Strangely enough I prefer Goldwave
(inexpensive stand-alone wave editor) for de-crackling vinyls: using
Restoration X-Crackle I couldn't find that happy medium between leaving too
much crackle and messing up the crispness of the music, but usually in
Goldwave it's enough to just run it with default settings. Not available for
Mac though, AFAIK.
