Subject: [CROSS] Can someone explain the "PAN LAW" bug/problem? What is it?
Message #128652
Just curious: I've heard a lot of gripes about first Logic Control users saying pan-laws weren't implemented (which made me think it was a Logic Control issue) but recently have also seen general gripes from people that the absence of PAN LAWS in LAWP/LAMP 5.5 and below are an ongoing annoyance yet they work in CubaseSX. Can someone explain exactly what PAN LAWS are, and how their absence affects mixing? Also, if they truly are absent, has anyone ever heard emagic acknowledge them as an issue that they plan on addressing in LAMP6? Also, one thing I *AM* aware of (and is quite annoying) is the absence of fader-groups on the Logic Control. I had hoped that fader- grouping would make it in to LAWP 5.5, but alas no. Has anyone heard emagic acknowledge any intent to implement fader-grouping EVER? Thanks, Midistorm

Its not that Logic does not have any "pan laws" (if there were no "pan laws" then panning would not work at all). It's just that Logic uses *different* panning laws than the other sequencers. This has been discussed in depth in the past. Check out this message from Yuvaz for a ton of details (its a 4 or 5 page email): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/message/105100 Basically Logic uses a pan law of 0 dB, Nuendo uses -3 dB and Cubase uses -6 dB. What people have asked for is a setting where they can choose if they want to use 0, -3 or -6 dB for the pan law. Cheers Jeremy

AFAIK ProTools TDM (and Logic with TDM) have -2.5db when panned center. Peter --- http://www.merlinsound.de
