This actually happened to someone earlier and yet I left some details
out, which was faux pa on my part. And in the past I explained it
wrong.
So...Check it out.
1. Launch system preference, then click on the Sound Panel. Then
click on Input Tab.
2. Then Launch Audio MIDI Setup [located in:
Application/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup].
3. Put the AudioMIDI Setup and Sound Panel next to each other, so you
can see what I am talking about.
4. Now you could go to the "Sound Panel" and set the Input volume
down
on the "Sound Input / Mic Line in". However, while you do this,
look
at the "Audio MIDI Setup" and look at where it says "Input
Section".
Notice that the input channels move up and down to reflect the input
volume.
5. Now, yank the Volume up in the "Sound Input / Mic Line in" and
go
to the "Audio MIDI Setup". Now look where it says, "Selected
Audio
Device" and the drop down menu should read "Built-in audio
controller".
Underneath that there is a check box that says "Play Through",
check
it off, and the noise goes away.
Basically, the noise comes from the Built in "Mic Line In" with
nothing
plugged into it, but volume turned up. Because if you plug something
into it, there is no noise.
But also, there is supposed to be this other thing about the sound of
the internal Modem...but I never experienced this.
Peace,
Alexis
