Im used to using Cakewalk Sonar 2 so Im new to Logic. I can't figure
out how to set-up my synth so that it sends and receives messages
from Logic. Plus, does anybody know where I can find some good
tutorials for basic stuff like this?

There are no stupid questions as fas as I'm concerned.
But you should probably tell everyone what your hardware setup is, so
someone with a similar kit can get you going.
Windows, I'm assuming (cakewalk) What kind of Midi interface??
One of the many Windows persons will gladly help you.

The key chapter in your on-line documentation is Menu > Help > Logic
Help > The Environment (or see the equivalent in your Owner's
Manual). Hendrik Jan Veenstra provides a MIDI datastream tutorial
for Logic users on his website http://www.omega-art.com. See also,
Len Sasso's www.swiftkick.com.

Hi,
You must add your synth in the Environment window
best

Sorry but that kind of basic stuff is covered in the first few chapters of
the manual which came with your logic. Maybe you should read this first ;)

I also started using logic after 15 years of KCS, Cubase, etc. I'm
comfortable with it now, and I like it, but I agree that its very
confusing to get started. It doesn't help that the examples,
tutorials, etc referenced in the manual are not actually on the disks
(at least they weren't in the big box version). It's also quite
unsatisfactory to find that the manual in the big box is version 4.0
and the disk is ver 5.3. If you download 5.5 for OSX, the difference
between app and doc is even more confusing. It might be easy for you
logic vets to see the link between the two, but for a new user its a
complete fog.
In fact, if I was a long term experienced user, I'd be a bit pissed at
Emagic because they have left it to you to make up for their poor
documentation for new users. Another reason to be pissed at Emagic:
One of the best reasons to buy the app instead of getting the
"approval" version, is to get printed manuals. There's no real
advantage in this case.
To get over the hump, you will have to go out and buy another book
written for ver 5, or download all the tutorials you can find on the
web. I got "User's Guide to Logic Audio 5" by Stephen Bennett. I
think
there is a Logic book in the "Power!" series as well. Between that
and
the V5 introduction manual, I figured it out.
Just keep reading the books, tutorials and docs over and over again,
and try things out as you go. Be prepared to start over several times.
Eventually you will "get it". Once you do, I think you'll like it.
