All of a sudden when I boot up Logic, it says no ASIO Driver. What is ASIO,
where do I get it, and why do it need it?

ASIO is a protocol created by Steinberg. You've probably accidentally
checked the ASIO box in <Audio> menu <Audio Hardware and
Drivers>
where you select the drivers required for your soundcard. If you DID
in fact use an ASIO driver previously, maybe you accidentally deleted
the file (which lives in the folder called <ASIO Drivers> on the
same level as your Logic app.

Colin, are you saying that A)you have been using Logic successfully
for some time, with some well established non-ASIO audio interface,
and you haven't installed any new interface nor altered any hardware
setting, and suddenly "when [you] boot up Logic, it says no ASIO
Driver"? Or B) have you recently installed an Audio interface (hdw
and sw), checked the ASIO box in Menu > Audio > Audio Hardware and
Drivers, and tried to work in Logic without doing anything else?
If it's "B", you skipped the step in Audio Hardware and Drivers
where
you click in the window labeled Driver and, from the drop down list,
select the driver corresponding to your device. (Many a newbie has
seen "No Driver" in that little window and failed to realize that
it
conceals both a drop down list and the obligation to select the
correct item in it.)
If it's "A", it is possible that in a parameter box for some Audio
Object, you (or some unknown evildoer) set the Dev parameter to ASIO.
You should restore the Dev setting to what works with your audio
interface, or delete the audio object if it is unused.

Bob, it wasn't me. I just answered the original poster (x76x@...).....

Look in your backups (you *DO* backup?) or else download the relevant
ASIO driver from the hardware suppliers site.
Or maybe you weren't even using one? What soundcard do you use on what
system?
