Subject: {LAW] New HD
Message #128440
Hi, I've bought today a new 120Gb HD. I have already a 40Gb. I want to use the second one for Logic Audio data (tracks/samples) Any tips on master/slave setup. I have got also a CD-RW and a DVDrom player on my Win2000 PC. I saw an article that sayed that my first HD must be prim. master en my second HD secondary master and the CD's both slave. Is that the best setup for Logic Audio? /Jeroen Wolff

As long as the point is to get audio sample access with less CPU strain, that is. Until I set up my recent Logic PC I always used two drives, but today drives are so fast so I put only one in there and partitioned it for audio and samples beside the main partition used for system and software. Personally, I've never suffered any performance hit on either drive due to a master/slave configuration.

Each IDE bus is only as fast as the slowest drive in its path. An ATA133 HD's maximum bus speed is some 4 times faster than any CD Drive. Thus put both HDs on the primary IDE bus and the CD drives on the secondary bus. Maybe others can corroborate this. HTH Tony Perretta
