Here it is again, a short add to the ongoing wish list:
Allow "cursor quantization" when working with Automation In the
Arrange
Automation view. After all, Logic has Default cursor quantize for all other
data (which you can't even turn off without having to always hold down
modifier keys, unfortunately - you should be able to toggle it), and yet you
can't even enable cursor quantize at all for fader/automation data in this
view! It makes copying and pasting of data harder.
Make it easier to copy/paste automation data in the Arrange graphically -
it seems Copy MIDI Events works, but standard Copy and Paste doesn't.
Shapes! Preset shapes for Controllers AND Fader/Automation, so that
drawing in LFOs in particular could be accomplished, and quickly. I.E.,
include at least the basics: sine, square, adjustable-width pulse, S&H,
Triangle, Sawtooth up/down. You already have linear, parabola and
"S" for
Automation view - add all shapes to standard Hyperdraw (and HyperEdit?) for
standard Controllers as well.
Once the shapes are in (either hand-drawn and copy/pasted with the
proposed new, easier methods, or drawn with the proposed new Shapes tool), I
want to have an easier way to graphically SCALE these shapes to impose an
overall larger shape on it. Logic sadly lacks this ability, with the
closest thing being the awkward "Relative Crescendo" option in the
Transform, which can only do a linear Ramp and is very time-consuming. A
GRAPHICAL "SCALE" TOOL is the answer, also with linear and
adjustable
parabola and "S" shapes. Like the regular automation tool has,
except that
this scale tool will multiply (above and below a midline 0 value) according
to it's momentary value. Example: 1)draw a triangle wave LFO to modulate an
EQ's frequency band, or resonance, or whatever you like; 2) Use the Scale
Tool as a straight line across to lower the amplitude of this LFO overall;
3) use the Scale Tool from the start of the track to a Crescendo Peak point
in the track, going from a slightly negative value to a value of 25% boost,
so that the LFO amplitude "Ramps up" - give this ramp a negative
or positive
parabolic (exponential) shape to taste.
Again, should be for Automation and standard controllers, in the various
editors.
Once you've coded the SHAPES tool, allow it to be used in the TRANSFORM's
MAP window, so Maps can be done easily, particularly linear and parabola
funtionality, although LFO shapes might be interesting there as well.
What do y'all think?

Good ideas, although I doubt any of them will make it into LA anytime
soon...
As for your desire to scale stuff: I've had the same wish for ages,
and made 2 environment patches (scaler and compander), both of which
allow you to scale (expand/compress) data (functionally identical,
but using a somewhat different approach). I use them all the time
myself -- having a perfect volume curve, but just wanting to compress
things a bit, and 'transposing' everything a bit upwards, etc.
Rather convenient. See my website's "Soft" section (see
signature).
Maybe I should make an updated version that allows you to automate
the amount of scaling, so that you can have compression at the onset,
moving into expansion a few bars later...? Obviously the macros only
work with 'real' midi events -- i.e. old-style automation. I wonder
if they could be made to work with TBA as well? Hmm... should give
that a try...
As for your desire to have flexible transformer maps: you might want
to check out my Magic Mapper packge (same webpage), which allows you
to define any mathematical function in Excel and have it produce
appropriate data (you could even do this in a plain text editor) and
dump that as midi data into a Logic transformer.
Note that this creates a transformer with a certain map -- i.e. the
environment object, and not the Transform window.
... which makes me wonder if you could also set the
Transform-window's map in a similar manner... Again something I
should give a try, I guess...

Hi Hendrik,
I did download the Magic Mapper when you first announced it several months
back.
Unfortunately, it does not work with Windows as you mentioned. Any chance
that you may be able to 'port' it at some time in the future?

I can't imagine I ever said it was Windows compatible, since it
isn't... If I did, then I messed up -- sorry.
The spreadsheet, Magic Sheet, is obviously cross platform, since it's
an Excel thing, but the application that sends the Excel data to
Logic relies heavily on OMS and so can't be ported in any convenient
way...
Hey, yet another fine reason to switch platforms, right? :-))
