Hi, im new to pc recording and have just bought logic audio5. i had
my audio instruments working, but somehow i erased all my audio
instrument channels and this is now my default song, and i cant seem
to get new ones up! i've read all the bits in the manuals (new-
audio inst.) but still cant seem to get up new ones. if i go to
the 'example setup song' they are there but all the insert boxes are
crossed out! what am i doing wrong?

Sounds like maybe you don't have an audio driver for the crossed-out plugs.
Can you be more specific about what goes wrong when you select new audio
instrument in the menu?
Gregory
hi Gregory,
at the minute my default song is sitting with 4audio tracks and ill
midi tracks, but no audio instrument tracks. if i follow the manual
step by step to creste an audio inst. track, i get to the point
where i double click on the waveform icon to turn it into a fader,
but when i then click on the channel entry in the parameters box, i
get no choice of instrument.
if i load the example setupsong, it has all the audio inst channels
there, but when i click on the inserts button, it just says 'no
effect, and gives no other choices.
All my synths are working and activated, as it was working last week!
cheers,

does anyone have any suggestions for me
I changed over to asio drivers (audio driver 2)
after i was having sync problems (5 or 6 midi tracks and 1 audio track)
using pc/av qith mt Delt 1010
someopne suggested i should be using NTFS - instead on Fat 32
so .......I reformat and converted to NTFS
still the same problem
then someone else suggested i really should be using asio drivers and not
pc/av delta easi mme
so - i found out how to use my asio drivers - suppled by delta (midiman)
now - i get as far as bar 12 on a song with NO AUDIO TRAX - just 7or8 midi
trax
and i get the ...............Asio drivers 'AUDIO ENGINE OVERLOAD - can't
process all the data - message
and my sequence will refuse to run past bar 12
so i've gone back to pc/av - and the easi drivers - just to get midi trax to
run
so i'm back to square one
'unable to sync audio and midi'
I have a pentium 4 1.7
xp
512 ram
40 gig drive
motu timepeice
does anyone have any advice here - other than - go get cubase sx or buy a
mac ???

What video card do you have? Is the Desktop set to 16 bit color, and
is "bus mastering" disabled for your video card?
Check out the Windows (tweaks) section of my Music Links web page..
there are many sites out there with all kinds of things you can do
to make WindowsXP run more efficiently for a DAW.

By default song do you mean the one that appears when you just go to
File / New? Try holding down Control when you click on New (or New
Song, forget what it is named exactly) which makes Logic build a
truly default song... That should have a few audio and audio
instrument tracks with a bunch of midi tracks below. Or does even
that not have any audio instruments showing up?

thanx for your reply
I have an NVIDIA geforce2 MX/ MX400 64mg video card
I don't know where i'd disable the bus mastering for the video card - i'll
check it out
thanx again

I have a Matrox G450 dual head video card.. It came with some
software that runs in the system tray down by the clock. For me I
just double click on the icon down there, and its in the settings
somewhere. I'm pretty sure most GeForce cards come with similar
software so you can tweak everything, just look in the video card
settings somewhere. I think you can also open up the video card
settings by right clicking on the Desktop, going to the Settings tab,
and clicking on the Advanced button?
Hope this helps,

even if i do that it brings up the one with no audio instrument
channels. i even uninstalled it then reinstalled it but it keeps
bringing the same one up! it is really doing my nut in!

Ronan,
Something sounds corrupt there. If you click and hold on the insert button
you should get No Effect, Mono, and Mono-Stereo as options. If that is not
the case, I don't know of any user error that could account for that, as the
logic fx are built into the program, unlike VSTs, which need to be in a
certain folder to work.
You might try creating a brand new autoload by removing all songs from your
Logic program folder and launching the program. If you still can't insert
fx, then I guess trash your prefs or something. I think you're on PC, which
I know little about. On a Mac, I would also rebuild my desktop dB.
Also, is this the entry-level Logic Audio 5 that used to be Logic Silver?
There may be limitations there that I don't know about.

I'm not sure if this would be true for you, but...
I have the MotU ExpressXT. I've had had the following problem forever.
Logic defaults to sending MIDI clock to all ports. With that setting, I
can't run one single track of audio. My machine just grinds to a stop.
Changing the setting by either sending to one port or turning it off all
together fixes this problem.
BTW - in LAPW 5.3 this seems to be a song setting. I always thought that is
was saved with the program before...

Hi,
It sounds like the reason you don't see your Insert FX is
because you don't have an Audio Driver selected in the
"Audio Hardware and Drivers" menu. Once you select the
respective driver you'll probably have to re-lauch Logic in
order for it to work.

Matt you hit it spot on there. cheers. im new to the whole thing,
and i was at this for a week, trying to fugure it out.
thanks all for the help, no doubt i'll have more queries soon
cheers

I have the same graphics card and similar (though not identical)
problems. Coincidence?
Emagic support were looking into this problems for me, but they seem
to have given up. :-(
My machine's going back to Dell for a "service" because of some
other
(probably unrelated) problems, but when it comes back I'll try
swapping the GeForce2 with an old ATI Rage Pro card to see if that helps.
I don't know how to disable bus mastering on the GeForce2 either, so
if you find out, please let me know.
It's probably worth taking a look at http://www.musicxp.net too.
Also check your soundcard has its own IRQ. If it doesn't, and you
can't disable what it shares with, move it to a different PCI slot and
try again - try the PCI slot closest to the AGP card (apparently this
sometimes has priority). On my PC the two PCI slots closest to the AGP
card have their own IRQs and the two furthest away share them with
other devices.
I've also been told that having "fade effects" on for menus can
cause
big problems (Display Properties -> Appearance -> Effects).
If your PC has an ACPI installation of Windows, it might even be worth
thinking about a reinstall as a standard PC. Though if your sound card
does have it's own IRQ this *ought* not to be necessary. You can tell
if it's ACPI from the device manager ("ACPI Computer" instead of
"Standard Computer"). When you're installing XP, if you hit F6
when it
says "press F5 for a third party raid driver" you can choose the
PC
type. (I might have got F5 and F6 the worng way around - just press
the other one to the one that Windows suggest for RAID drivers!)
Hope this helps. Let us know.
Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about! OK that's not quite
true, but don't take it as gospel. I've found out most of this stuff
while trying to sort out the problems on my own machine. I've tried it
all apart from the non-ACPI Windows installation. Try it at your own risk!

Robb

BTW, just got this from USENET:

So that could well be our problem...

Would it be possible for Logic Control to retain control of the master
audio output of the Mac OS even when you're not in Logic?

Possible yes, but it would require some sort of driver/control panel.
On Mac OS 9, you would have to use OMS with all MIDI applications, as
the direct hardware support can't be shared.

Ever since I upgraded from Logic 5.1.3, and at the same time had to
reinstall my system after a hard drive failure, I've been plagued with
"overload" errors under even lightest load conditions - despite a
high
spec. machine. Further reinstalls, reverting to 5.1.3, newer drivers,
older drivers, hardware settings, OS tweaks, correspondence with Sound
Technology and Emagic, and more failed to make any difference.
Then I remembered this message:

Changing from "all ports" to "Micro: sync in - all out"
(a port on my
4x6 MOTU Micro Express that apparrently send the incoming clock signal
to its 6 MIDI outs) seems to have made these problems go away.
What's more, testing system performance with one of the test songs from
http://www.digitalnaturalsound.com/logic_dsp/index.shtml showns I can
now run an additional 15 PlatinumVerbs (39 instead of 24). So even if
you don't have a problem, changing from the default might be well worth
doing!
My best guess for the reason this happens on my system is that with it
set to "all ports" MIDI clock also goes to the MIDI synth on my
motherboard (which I never use anyway) and it just can't keep up.
Thank you Lance Lasky. ;-)

Robb
