Subject: [LAM] How to create a Tempo map?
Message #120572
Acrually, I have 3 questions. 1 - How do I create a tempo map in Logic that will follow a piece of freely recorded audio, such as a live drum take? I've tried using the 'reclock' feature, but can't get it to let me do tempo changes further on down the line (in the song). I've tried checking the 'create tempo change' box, as well as the 'reclock only within selected region' box, but no matter what I do, seems there is always something missing - Somebody's always getting pulled in the wrong direction, or has somehow lost his place in line... I've tried selecting a piece of audio, and reclocking that way, I've tried only creating a cycle in the tempo ruler, without selecting any audio, and I always seem to run into problems when I get later in the song, where I want to 'tweak' the tempo, as the live music is obviously not matching up anymore. If anyone has advise / experience with this, I'd love to get your input. For you Pro Tools users out there, what I'm looking for is the equivalent to 'Identify Beat', where I can select a piece of audio, tell the app.: "Here's bar one, here's bar 9, etc etc.." 2 - What are the midi CC#'s for the plugin slots on the instrument objects in the Environment? I have my EC-16 set for the plugin parameters on regular audio objects (70-80 and 80-90 or whatever they are), but can't seem to get any 'external knob action' (how's that for a technical term?) from my controller to either the plugins or the VST instruments / soft synths I've plugged in. Any thoughts? And finally 3 - Why am I getting an ASIO driver 'disk too slow or sys o/l message when i'm playing back audio tracks that are only assigned to the Direct I/O, and ASIO is not 'doing' anything? I can make this go away by setting the buffer size to 1024 or 2048, but to me that's pretty damn high for not even using the damn thing. I had originally hoped to use the ASIO outs for my VSTi outputs, but I guess not... Thank you's to those of you who made it to the end of this post, and hope to hear from you soon. This is a reply to #120572.

Play the audio track, and record a midi file that follows the beat. I just hit one note at the start of every measure. Once that is recorded, then reclock using the guide track. There may be some convoluted way to get Logic to detect the audio beats, but I guarantee that creating your own midi guide track is easier. Gregory
